Sign 1: Your AC Is More Than 10 Years Old
In Dubai's harsh climate, the realistic lifespan of a split AC is 8–12 years for the indoor unit and 10–15 years for the outdoor compressor. After year 10, you're in borrowed time — compressors fail, coils corrode, refrigerant leaks become recurrent, and spare parts for older models get harder to source. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, AC units older than 10 years are typically 30–50% less efficient than modern equivalents — meaning you're paying significantly more on your DEWA bill every month just to keep an aging unit running.
If your AC is 10+ years old and you're facing a AED 800+ repair (compressor, coil, PCB), do the math: that AED 800 buys you maybe 1–2 more years before the next major failure. Modern inverter ACs (especially Daikin, LG, and Samsung's top-tier inverter splits) use 25–35% less electricity than non-inverter ACs of equivalent capacity.
